What is IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English language test, which is accepted in more than 140 countries and over 11000 organisations. These organisations include governments, academic institutions and employers, 3000 of which are in the USA.

The IELTS results band scale is easy to use and clearly identifies the degree of knowledge on 9 levels, from Non-user (band 1) to expert user (band 9).

IELTS cancellation and refund policy

Cancelling your IELTS test

If you cancel your IELTS test up to five weeks before (IELTS on Paper) and up to 2 weeks before (IELTS on Computer) the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration fee of 25% of the test fee.

The Centre for Foreign Languages cannot make payments to foreign banks. If you request a refund to be sent to foreign account, you will be asked to nominate an alternative method of payment. Failure to provide an alternative method of payment will result in non-payment of the relevant funds.

Please note that refunds can take two to four weeks to process.

No refunds will be allowed for IELTS if there is less time left than stated above. Exemptions from this policy are:

  • serious illness or medical incident (such as hospital admission or a major injury)
  • bereavement - loss of a close family member
  • hardship or trauma (such as being a victim of crime or involved in a traffic accident)
  • military service.

To cancel your IELTS (Academic and General Training) test, please log in to the Test Taker Portal and submit a cancellation request, along with an upload of supporting documentation/evidence.

If a medical certificate confirming illness on the date of the test is provided within five working days of the test date, together with the submitted cancellation request on the Test Taker Portal, the fee is refundable, minus an administration fee of 25% of the test fee.

Only medical certificates in Macedonian or English are accepted. If we have not received your submitted cancellation request along with an upload of supporting documentation/evidence on the Test Taker Portal by the fifth working day after the test, you will be marked as absent and forfeit all claims.

Requesting a test day transfer

If you need to change the date of your test from the date you originally booked, you can request a test day transfer up to five weeks before the test date for IELTS on Paper, up to 2 weeks before the test date for IELTS on Computer, free of charge.

Please note that the new test date must be within three months of the original date. In cases of illness, a transfer is possible if an original medical certificate is provided within five working days of the test date, together with the Test Date Transfer Form. You will need to request the test day transfer from your official test centre.

If you receive a transfer to new test date (either before the test or due to illness) and are ill on the second test date, then you are not entitled to a refund of the test fee nor to any further transfer to a new test date.

To change the date of your test a transfer session fee of 2000 denars must be paid.

Which IELTS test should you take

IELTS can help you provide evidence of your language skills when applying for jobs, university courses and immigration.
Take the IELTS Academic test to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level, or to work abroad.
Take IELTS General to work in your own or a foreign country, or for below degree level studies.
*Before booking your test, make sure to check which test you need with the organisations you are applying to.
To obtain a British visa for study, work or immigration, you need to take the IELTS UKVI (IELTS for UK visa and Immigration). For more information, visit the website dedicated to this. Different cancellation and refund policies apply to this exam.

IELTS on computer

Presently, you can choose IELTS on computer, which means that you will take the Listening, Reading and Writing sections on a computer.
The Speaking test will be taken face-to-face, through a video call, with a trained IELTS examiner, and will be taken on the same day with the other sections of the test.
IELTS on computer provides more test dates to choose from as well as a shorter period to get the results, in 1-5 days after the test date.
